Solicitor (Court of Protection)

As a Solicitor in our Public Law team, you’ll manage cases with a focus on health and welfare: Court of Protection work.

The Simpson Millar work environment offers a welcoming and friendly atmosphere where our people work together to make a real difference for our clients. Our solicitors have a desire to act for the individual, away from the corporate image of a lawyer, providing open and transparent advice to some of the most in need. If this sounds like a team you want to be a Solicitor in, then read on.

We’re looking for the right type of solicitor, not just any lawyer, so if your methods and ethos are a match, that’s the most important criteria. This isn’t a role that demands for a certain PQE, obviously what we can offer in salary will reflect what contribution you can make, but we’ll mould the role to suit your level of ability and experience.

Your background will come from having exposure to some, or all, of the following:

  • Deprivation of Liberty cases; visiting clients who are deprived of their liberty in care settings to understand their care needs, preferences and hopes for the future
  • Helping Clients make decisions relevant to their case and lifestyle
  • Instructing suitable medical, nursing and social care experts to help identify available options
  • Representing disabled clients so they they receive the level of health and social care and support they require

Your natural flair in establishing relationships will allow you to successfully grow links with external organisations such as relevant local charities. In addition, it’s useful if you have worked with cases that are Legal Aid Funded and therefore come from a background of working with the LAA.

Your day will go by quickly with these high-volume cases and it goes without saying that you will be responsible for ensuring compliance within SRI and other regulatory frameworks such as Money Laundering procedures and the Data Protection Act.

Why Simpson Millar?

You’ll get the benefit of a growing and well-capitalised, large national firm which still retains its small company, family feel. Flexible working and a relaxed dress code, and importantly colleagues who are on hand to assist your development. We’ve branded ourselves as The Open Lawyers, and that’s a commitment to both our clients and our colleagues.

Our history can be traced back for over 170 years, but as of today, we have 11 offices around the UK employing over 500 people (and that’s increasing every month). We’re going through a period of growth and acquisition, backed up by a stable 5-year, investment and growth business plan
