Our client, a large commercial law firm in London is looking to recruit an experienced Corporate Crime & Regulatory Investigations Solicitor/ Barrister 6+ years PQE/ Call. The successful will work closely with Partners in the Corporate Crime and Regulatory Investigations Group. The team advises on: • Corporate crime issues of all kinds, particularly bribery and corruption, money laundering, fraud, economic sanctions and export controls, and other criminal matters. They support clients on related issues including extradition, governance and directors' duties • Regulatory investigations (including 'twin track' civil and criminal investigations) particularly those conducted by the Prudential Regulation Authority, the Financial Conduct Authority, and the Payment Systems Regulator. They also advise on UK aspects of cross-border investigations led by overseas regulators and agencies including investigations into allegations of market abuse, insider trading, breaches of the European Market Abuse Regulation, benchmark manipulation, and breaches of other financial services regulatory principles and rules • Non-contentious compliance issues relating to all of the above eg. using their experience of contentious work (such as acting on investigations) to help clients learn from operational incidents and strengthen their systems and controls against financial crime • assisting firms with implementations of new legislation eg. new money laundering directives.
The successful candidate will run their own matters with appropriate support where needed. There is a strong culture of support and collaboration and as a member of the team, you will be encouraged to contribute to business and practice development activities, taking a leading role in developing and shaping the practice as it grows. You can also be expected to be involved in the supervision and development of other team members. Candidates will have an excellent working knowledge of existing law and regulation in this area, and forthcoming developments. It will be important to be familiar with the Bribery Act 2010 and Money Laundering Regulations 2017, and with financial services legislation relevant to contentious practice (such as the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, Financial Services Act 2012, Financial Services (Banking Reform) Act 2013, FCA Handbook, and PRA Rulebook).
