Our client is an international law firm with offices across the US, Europe and Asia. With more than 1000 lawyers globally, they specialise in international arbitration, criminal litigation and financial services enforcement.

They are currently recruiting for a Management Accountant to join them on a fixed term contract. You will have overall responsibility for the preparation of the London annual tax accounts and monthly financials as well as supervising the cashiering, client accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of a team who process all cashiering, client account and accounts payable.
  • Managing the Solicitors Accounts Rules audit with the Firm’s accountants. Preparation of the London’s Management Accounts for internal and bank purposes.
  • Full preparation of year end schedules in line with UK accounting practices, for London Partners return including calculation and preparation of the accruals and prepayments.
  • Assisting support heads to Investigate costs and looking into actual expenditure against budget and previous year costs and producing monthly commentary on all variances.
  • Preparation of quarterly VAT returns to HMRC including VAT reclamation on Counsel fees.
  • Assisting with the preparation of the London Budget as and when required.
  • Partner payment back-up documentation - for annual audit.
  • Bankline administrator and authorising electronic payments.
  • Supervising the payment process of standing orders and direct debits.
  • Improving existing processes and full involvement in implementation of any new systems.
  • Accounts Payable, Legal Cashiering and Client Account:
  • Full responsibility of setting day and month end procedures.
  • Ensuring that client account transactions are processed in accordance with the SAR.
  • Full analysis of all nominal accounts and monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Responsible for paying the Partner drawings and distributions.
  • Assisting all budget holders with expenditure analysis for the preparation of reports for their line Managers also includes annual budgeting and forecast calculations.
  • Daily review of office cashbook balances, and bank statements and cash flow forecasting. Reviewing client account reconciliations and balances and other balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Overseeing and processing of payroll journals. Reviewing petty cash and foreign currency reconciliation.

Candidate Profile

  • A thorough knowledge of the Solicitors Accounts Rules.
  • Good knowledge of 3E.
  • A thorough knowledge of law firm finance systems.
  • Accounting double entry knowledge.
  • Supervisory skills to manage, train and develop finance staff.
