Join a well established Legal team in a Data Protection focused role, advising the European business day to day, with the opportunity to work on international projects. This Legal Counsel role is based in Surrey but offers the opportunity to work flexibly once established, you will report to the Privacy Lead for EMEA.

Description

This Legal Counsel, Data Protection role is based in Surrey and involves:

Provision of prompt and detailed legal advice in relation to legal questions and documentation, responsible for data protection support on projects.

The work will cover delivering advice on data protection law issues to UK, Europe and Head Quarters.

Specifically:

  • advising on applicable data protection issues arising in relation to European projects, agreements and initiatives with marketing, customer services, HR and products teams;
  • advising and working on relevant data protection structures to ensure data protection compliance, including engaging in dialogue with Head Quarters and the other subsidiaries across Europe;
  • analysing and working on data protection impact assessments and legitimate interest assessments to assist the business comply with documentation requirements under law;
  • advising and working on rights requests under the GDPR;
  • continuous development of internal data protection guidance, policies and procedures for all divisions and assisting senior legal counsel with compliance audits;
  • assisting with research on legal issues, case law and legislative developments;
  • providing training to the business on compliance matters;
  • liaising with Supervisory Authorities as necessary, providing hands-on expertise on privacy and data governance and advising and working on incident reporting and investigations;
  • assisting with the provision of practical guidance to the business on policies and procedures and providing scalable written guidance to teams on how data privacy applies to our products and services.

Profile

This Legal Counsel, Data Protection role is based in Surrey and requires:

  • A UK qualified solicitor, this role would suit someone newly qualified up to 5 years PQE * (*candidates with more or less experience who meet the technical criteria are welcome to apply and will be considered)
  • A good overall grasp of data protection laws and issues, ideally an understanding of issues likely to be faced by an international consumer facing brand
  • Excellent academic achievements
  • Someone committed to working within an "in-house" legal environment.
  • Excellent drafting and analytical skills
  • You will need to be able to work/communicate with, influence and provide guidance to individuals at all levels of the organisation.
  • Someone comfortable working on multiple projects with different deadlines
