JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Our super collaborative and friendly Legal & Compliance team has an exciting new opportunity for a Deputy General Counsel focusing on the region. This role can be based in any of the regional offices and the successful individual will be part of the Global Legal and Compliance organisation. You will be responsible for managing the provision of strategic, high quality timely and cost effective legal services.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the provision of legal services and deliver high quality, commercially focused, cost effective legal services
  • Maintain a comprehensive approach to risk, risk management and compliance
  • Build and maintain relationships of trust with key stakeholders
  • Lead and develop processes and systems to improve efficiency and quality of services; engage and manage external lawyers as required
  • Manage legal spend to meet or beat budget
  • Execute for results and help deliver sustainable value to stakeholders
  • Develop and in-house and external capability
  • Regulatory and compliance


Key Requirements:

  • Substantial experience as a senior lawyer (15+PQE) providing legal advice to leaders, executive and board
  • Experience in in-house legal team ideally in an IT, data centre, telecommunications or technology business
  • Significant exposure to a wide range of law including commercial and contract law; company law, mergers and acquisitions; regulatory; dispute resolution; privacy; IT; procurement; intellectual property; anti-bribery; sanctions; and competition law
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and experience in building relationships of trust and influencing outcomes across a range of stakeholders
  • Business judgement with the ability to develop pragmatic solutions to challenging business issues. This includes confidence to constructively give full and frank advice with a focus on risk management (not risk minimisation)
  • Internal and external negotiation skills
  • Strong customer focus and ability to develop and maintain internal and external relationships
  • Proven ability to act independently and provide commercially focused legal advice with a high degree of integrity
  • Proven ability to review, draft and edit documents

 

The Successful Applicant

  • Qualified lawyer with 15+ PQE
  • Solid private practice experience and currently working in a well-recognised MNC.
  • Good command in both spoken and written English
  • In-house experience in TMT industries would be highly advantageous
  • Strong regional experience, with in-depth working knowledge of various AsiaPac markets.
  • Strong managerial acumen having direct reports in various jurisdictions.
  • Self-starter with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A passionate and detail-oriented legal professional who can work autonomously in a dynamic environment.
