Your new company
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lawyer to join a North London Local Authority as a Senior Commercial and Procurement Lawyer. This is a Locum role, initially for three months with the opportunity of extension.
Your new role
As the Senior Lawyer, you will be responsible for managing a variety of contracts, services agreements and procurement matters. You will advise on and have conduct of legal files on behalf of the councils clients including housing associations and schools and to provide advice, representation and undertake research as requested in relation to Contracts, Procurement & Information matters. You will support the contract team to advise on construction contracts, but also on a wider range of contracts/funding agreements as well as committee reports when required. Finally you will be expected to build good and effective working relationships with colleagues within the Department, senior officers, elected members and their stakeholders.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role you will be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister and have significant experience of commercial contracts and procurement, specifically construction and building contracts, service agreements and public procurement frameworks. Extensive legal experience at local Government level is preferred as is experience of managing a large case load and managing multiple deadlines. You should be able to work well under pressure and have excellent attention to detail. Finally, experience of mentoring junior legal professionals is desirable but not essential.
What you'll get in return
On offer is a competitive rate of between £35-40 per hour depending on experience. The successful candidate will be expected to work remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic bit will be provided with a laptop, although occasional travel to the office may be required. The contract is initially for 3 months with the likelihood of extension.
