Legal & Compliance Manager

Wellington College is one of the world’s leading co-educational boarding and day schools and has an enviable reputation for excellence and innovation. We are currently looking for a well-organised and self-motivated individual with a good understanding of contract law to join us as Legal & Compliance Manager.

The Legal & Compliance Department provides a full range of legal advice to the College, its schools and trading subsidiaries on all matters, whilst also ensuring it remains compliant with all relevant legislation. Join us, and you could soon be playing a key role within our highly professional team. This is a permanent role that can be offered on a full or part-time basis.

Your New Role

Working closely with the department Director, the Legal & Compliance Manager will help ensure that the charity and its trading subsidiaries are compliant in all areas. As well as responding to requests for legal advice and advising on ad hoc projects, we will also look to you to deputise for the Director in their absence. Establishing relationships with other Managers and staff across the organisation will be important too, and you will be responsible for:

  • Advising them on the legal and compliance aspects of contracts, policies and processes;
  • Helping them to negotiate contracts;
  • Reviewing their compliance with applicable legislation and internal processes, agreeing; and
  • Monitoring remedial actions and managing any low-level claims.

About You

A qualified Solicitor with a proven post-qualification track record, you already have some experience in employment and/or commercial departments. Applications to this Legal & Compliance Manager role should also demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of data protection regulations and/or the charitable and/or education sectors, though not essential, would be an advantage;
  • Experience of engaging with regulators and government bodies;
  • Confident in your ability to enable effective dialogue with colleagues, staff, visitors and where applicable, pupils;
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills;
  • Self-motivation, a high level of accuracy and attention to detail; and
  • The ability to remain professional whilst under pressure and are great at meeting targets and deadlines.

On offer for the Legal & Compliance Manager will be £40,000 per annum.
