As a Legal Counsel Vice President you will act as trusted advisor to business stakeholders, providing expert legal advice on financial services lending and payments products, in particular advising on compliance with applicable legislation including Consumer Credit Act 1974 and Financial Services & Markets Act 2000. You will provide advice on CONC, Payment Services Regulations 2017, the RTS On Strong Customer Authentication, CMA orders and general consumer law such as the Consumer Rights Act 2015. 

What will you be doing?

  • Leading on a range of matters including strategic business initiatives, product and channel innovation, remediation, process improvement, legal and regulatory change implementation
  • Coaching and supporting the development of team members within a team culture of empowerment where lawyers are able to partner with
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of relevant laws, regulations and policies, and to pro-actively engaging with and contributing to the team horizon scanning process 
  • Utilising expertise within the team for key products and services and continuing to push towards simplicity of our product offering, whilst working closely with the business
  • Escalating material legal and non-legal risks/ issues to the Cards Legal Counsel Lead, the Head of Legal, Unsecured Regulated Lending or other relevant senior management
  • Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency of self and team and ensure the optimum use of external legal support, where required, to ensure cost effective and high quality service provision from external counsel 
  • Identifying opportunities for, and delivery of, training to colleagues whether in the business, Legal function or otherwise

What we’re looking for:

  • Qualified and experienced solicitor or barrister
  • Expertise in Consumer credit law and regulation, Payment services law and regulation, Consumer protection law and FCA policy and regulation of financial services
  • Good legal drafting skills

  • Financial services/ retail banking/ regulated mortgage contracts/ non-regulated lending/ Open Banking
  • Skilled in collaborative working with a team working ethos and the ability to manage others where appropriate
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
