A major international retail group and leader in its sector is seeking a Commercial Lawyer to join the team as Senior Counsel.

With offices in the Midlands and Hertfordshire, the business operates a number of household name brands and is currently undergoing major IT projects which have increased online sales; backed by an American parent company they are a stable, innovative company with plans for further growth over the next 3 years.

Location and Flexibility

The Senior Counsel will be required to spend a day in the office per week (pandemic permitting!), with the flexibility to work the rest from home. Time spent in the office will be split between the two locations to ensure you have sufficient contact with all areas of the business.

The Role

Supported by the General Counsel, the Senior Counsel will be the primary point of contact for all legal queries from the wider business, as well as:
- Drafting, negotiating and amending a wide variety of commercial contracts, such as with new e-commerce providers, logistics etc as well as procurement;
- Advising the business on Data Protection matters;
- Providing legal input on transformative IT projects;
- Assisting on transatlantic projects; and
- Marketing and Brand Protection.

This is a fast-paced business which, driven by a forward-thinking and supportive General Counsel, has proven its agility in the face of market changes and is now starting to push forwards into new areas of sales and growth.

The Person

The successful candidates will have a strong commercial contracts background and be keen to take on a position working with key internal stakeholders. Experience in data protection and/or e-commerce would be beneficial. You will have the opportunity to become a key part of the business and take on significant responsibility from the outset.

The position is available as a 12 month Fixed Term Contract with strong potential to be made permanent during that time.
