This is an incredible opportunity to work as a high profile lawyer within a pivotal government body, right at the heart of policy making and government.

The role offers an excellent opportunity to work in a unique area which deals with high profile matters that consider events of serious public concern.

The team provides legal advice and support on a wide range of inquiry related matters including:

Advising on inquiries in various capacities e.: sponsorship departments, core participants and responding to disclosure requests.

Advising individuals who participate in inquiries e civil servants and Ministers with preparation of their evidence and witness support.

Additionally, the team work directly to inquiries on areas such as:


  • Any possible or actual Judicial Review or other litigation;
  • Disclosure tasks;
  • Costs issues;
  • The maxwellisation process;
  • FOIA, DPA/GDPR and copyright; and
  • Publication and winding up an inquiry.

  • Previous experience of public inquiries/reviews and/or litigation (ideally public law litigation) is essential. You must be able to demonstrate good written skills (including close attention to detail) and an ability to work independently and under pressure. The post is likely to involve carrying out extensive disclosure exercises, drafting witness statements, providing detailed written legal advice and conducting litigation (primarily judicial review) relating to public inquiries/reviews.

    Ideally you will be at least 3 years PQE (although other PQE applicants would be invited to apply), and you will be enrolled as Solicitor of England & Wales and hold a current practising certificate.
