Regulatory Barrister, London – A rare chance for a specialist Barrister with professional regulatory experience to join this leading, private practice team.
JOB TITLE: Regulatory Barrister
PQE: 4+
LOCATION: London
SALARY: Competitive + Benefits

THE ROLE:
This leading professional regulatory team is ranked in the top tier by the legal directories and is one of the largest in the country. The team acts for a significant number of regulatory bodies, primarily in the health sector but, increasingly, more widely across a number of professional disciplines. Due to continued growth, they are now seeking ambitious individuals to join their team in London to help us service clients both locally and nationally. The work largely involves presenting cases but also requires managing an investigatory caseload where it is alleged that the registrant's fitness to practise is impaired through misconduct, competence or health issues and preparing those cases for hearings before panels and committees of the relevant regulators. Advocacy typically involves interim and substantive hearings. This includes shorter, more straightforward hearings as well as more complex cases such as sexual misconduct, dishonesty allegations/ fraud and serious instances of deficient professional performance. Hearings are usually contested and in the majority of cases the registrants are represented, most often by counsel. It is likely that there will also be opportunities to appear in the High Court and the First Tier Tribunal on appeals from decisions of the regulators. Depending on experience, there are likely to be other advocacy opportunities arising from other aspects of the department’s work.

THE CANDIDATE:
The team is looking for advocates with experience in fitness to practice, however, they might consider applications from those with less experience who have for example, practiced in the area of crime, and are looking for that next step up. Successful candidates will be expected to be able to demonstrate at interview that they are self-motivated and commercially minded, as well as having good interpersonal skills and being able to work effectively in teams. This is a great opportunity to join a friendly, dynamic and expanding team in a market leading firm with the opportunity to influence and shape the ways the dispute advocacy service evolves moving forwards.

THE FIRM:
You will join a leading, private practice law firm with an outstanding reputation nationally. This opportunity will provide you with the chance to develop your skills and career long-term.
