A friendly, modern, progressive and commercially-oriented City law firm with a dynamic and enterprising approach is hiring a Business Development Manager on a 6 month fixed term contract basis.

This excellent interim opportunity offers exposure at the most senior levels of the firm. Reporting to the Head of Business Development, the role holder will focus on the firm's Retail and Media, IP, Technology, Outsourcing & Commercial Contracts groups. You will initially work alongside the outgoing Senior BD Manager, then cover the gap before another permanent person is recruited. The objective of the role will be to work with the existing manager in supporting key activities and initiatives, carrying out a full handover and ensuring seamless support for Retail and MIPTOC. Once the existing Senior Business Development Manager has left, you will be the key point of Business Development support for the two groups before ensuring a smooth handover to a new incoming permanent manager as and when they are recruited. The firm will definitely consider the Interim Business Development Manager transitioning into the permanent position. You will enjoy a broad role, taking responsibility for business and BD planning, identifying business leads and emerging opportunities through market research and analysis and working with Partners and the Head of Practice Management to support activity related to the firm's top 20 clients and identified prospects. You will also work closely with the Bid Manager to support the delivery of bids, proposals, client presentations and capability statements and must prepare, advise and coach partners for effective relationship and BD meetings. From a marketing perspective, the successful applicant will provide advice and guidance to lawyers on how to raise profile, awareness and market reputation to key buyer groups, developing compelling content and value propositions and implementing a wide range of appropriate positioning and marketing communication tactics. You will work in collaboration with the marketing services team, to execute strategies to ensure the propositions are clearly articulated and communicated with maximum impact across all channels and to deliver activities which build brand awareness and understanding in the external marketplace.

The successful candidate will be a bright graduate or equivalent with proven experience gained within a marketing and BD function at a major professional services firm, preferably within the legal sector. The Business Development Manager will also be a motivated self-starter, ideally an experienced interim who is used to hitting the ground running and holding the tiller for an interim period. Experience of working with Retail clients would be helpful, but is not essential.
