A friendly, modern, progressive and commercially-oriented City law firm with a dynamic and enterprising approach need to recruit a specialist retail-focused Senior Business Development Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity which will offer exposure at the most senior levels of the firm and is rich with potential to make a tangible difference very quickly and will be suitable for candidates looking for a full mix role in a mid-sized law firm where they can make a strategic impact and help drive the growth of one of the firm's most strategically-important areas. Reporting to the Head of Business Development, this position has full responsibility for coordinating and delivering all advisory and support marketing and business development services to the Retail sector group and will also help drive growth in the firm's Media, IP, Technology, Outsourcing and Commercial Contracts practices, a core part of the Commercial Division of the firm. The role holder will work with the Retail group lead and executive team, to design and deliver a long-term overarching marketing and business development strategy for the group as a whole and subsequently, design and execute annual and long-term marketing and business development plans, coupled with financial, BD and resourcing targets, which support the group strategy and help each stream deliver new and existing client business and achieve their stated long-term business objectives and, in addition, work alongside relevant Partners to support the MIPTOC group's annual business planning to develop sustainable profitable growth. Working alongside the Head of Business Development and Director of Client Services, the Senior Business Development Manager will need to develop and deliver a Key Account Programme for the and implement ongoing CRM best practice, institutionalising high quality relationship management and cross-selling disciplines, with the ultimate objective of opening out and driving revenue growth from existing clients of the firm. Acting as a 'champion' for best practice bid management within the Retail and MIPTOC groups, you will work closely with the Bid Manager to support the delivery of bids, proposals, client presentations and capability statements, leading on the management and drafting of ad hoc opportunities as required. From a marketing perspective, the successful applicant will provide advice and guidance to lawyers on how to raise profile, awareness and market reputation to key buyer groups, developing compelling content and value propositions and implementing a wide range of appropriate positioning and marketing communication tactics. You will work in collaboration with the marketing services team, to execute strategies to ensure the propositions are clearly articulated and communicated with maximum impact across all channels and to deliver activities which build brand awareness and understanding in the external marketplace.

The successful candidate will be a bright graduate or equivalent with significant proven experience gained within a marketing and business development function at a major professional services firm, preferably within the legal sector. Experience of developing sector, practice and client focused BD plans, a track record of delivering financial results aligned to objectives and evidence of good Partner management skills will be essential. Rich experience of working with Retail clients and a detailed understanding of the Retail sector are also prerequisites. In addition, the Senior Business Development Manager will be a motivated self-starter, with significant powers of organisation an infectious enthusiasm and a strong understanding of the workings and language of a commercial team in a law firm.
