Your new company
An opportunity has arisen for a Lawyer to join a London Council as a Chief Contracts Lawyer. Initially for 3 months with the possibility of extension.

Your new role
As the Chief Contracts Lawyer, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and undertaking legal work in respect of the Contracts Team. You will manage a team of two as well as managing a substantial personal caseload of the most complex contract and commercial work. You will draft, negotiate and agree documentation for all types of contract and commercial transactions and as required, legal documentation for other transactions will be responsible for the management and development of staff within the Contracts Team and to ensure that the work of the team is carried out to the highest standard. Moreover, you will investigate and advise on contract claims by or against the Council including those arising out of building contracts. Finally, you will undertake civil litigation and arbitration arising out of contracts and to advise on and negotiate settlements as appropriate.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for the role, you will be admitted solicitor or qualified barrister in England (or comparable jurisdiction) with a minimum of four years' post-qualification experience in a similar role or organisation. You will be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of contract and procurement practices and a thorough knowledge of contract, commercial law and tort (including building contract law) including recent and proposed changes. You will have considerable experience of drafting and negotiating contracts and will be able to deal with civil litigation cases (particularly building and other contract related litigation) and appear as an advocate, where appropriate, on behalf of the Council in courts, tribunals and inquiries.

What you'll get in return
The successful candidate will receive a competitive day rate with the potential for extension after the initial 3 month contract. You will be expected to work remotely initially and will be provided with a laptop.
