Our client is a highly successful multinational company whose legal team is looking for an experienced Payments Lawyer to be based in Madrid, Spain.
Your new role
As the Payments business unit is growing fast, the legal team has created a new opportunity for an experienced payments lawyer. This is a great chance to join a highly regarded legal team that is central to a dynamic business in an exciting and varied role.
As a Payments Legal Counsel you will own the contractual legal matters including contract assignment and negotiations; you will also support a wide range of transaction legal matters as the business grows.
Your responsibilities
You will provide legal support to Payments business unit growth plans and license application process, provide legal advice in relation to contract due diligence and data mining, develop a legal strategy for contract assignments / renegotiations and a customer communication plan and draft new contract templates;
You will provide legal support in strategic operations within Payments business unit in relation to M&A - provide legal assessment of contract due diligence and data mining exercises in M&A preparations, advise on M&A transactions and provide post-M&A integration support;
You will support strategic business matters providing legal advice about contract negotiations and entering new markets;
You will advise on the development of new products and synergies: you will collaborate and advise on the design of new business models, products and solutions, advise on the development of synergies in new acquisitions and stay up to date on changes in law and regulatory framework within the payments industry;
You will share best practices and know how with the wider Payments legal team and mentor and train more junior colleagues in legal.

What you’ll need to succeed
- 4-8 years of PQE including strong experience in payments
- Knowledge of Payment legislative regimes in the EU and of Fintech technologies
- An ability to successfully collaborate with and influence non-legal stakeholders
