Client Details

Our client is an educational institution with campuses throughout London and the Midlands.

Description

To be responsible for the provision of legal advice and support for a broad range of legal matters and relevant functions of the organisation and its associated companies.

You will act as the key legal adviser for the organisation and all associated companies, advising and providing support on legislation applying to higher education, contractual matters, GDPR information law, managing conduct of litigation matters and dealing with a wide range of complex and high profile commercial related matters.


Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):


Reviewing and updating relevant policies and regulations in relation to changes of legal and regulatory requirements; managing the Prevent and Safeguarding compliance within an educational establishment; reviewing/updating Contracts for the organisation and providing advice to other areas of the business including Executive Management, HR Department, Academic faculty and Operational Management teams.


Ability to assist the organisation in the legal management of its commercial buildings including oversight of lease negotiations/disputes, purchases, construction contracts/maintenance, building regulatory compliance in addition to liaison with landlords and other key stakeholders.

You will be able to work on your own initiative, produce high quality work to meet deadlines

Profile

Required:

Solicitor or barrister qualified to practice in the UK (or equivalent) with some post qualification work experience working in private practice or in-house

Ability to:

  • lead cross-institutional projects across the organisation and its associated companies
  • give clear and concise explanations of legal issues to non-qualified members of the organisation at all levels on non-contentious and contentious matters
  • to write/prepare high quality papers, presentations, reports and briefings to the Executive Committee Board and other internal/external stakeholders

Desirable:

Experienced in providing legal advice and support relevant to the higher education sector
