£20,000 without PSQ (rising to £25,000 once PSQ is obtained. In addition £100 per out of hours police station conducted with PSQ).
The role meets the SRA Work Experience requirements, if the successful candidate wants to pursue a career as a solicitor. Prospects with the firm for employment as a solicitor once qualified are excellent and the successful candidate would be supported in becoming a duty solicitor. This role would suit an applicant dedicated to a career in criminal defence work.
The main duties of the paralegal include:
- Answering the office phone and covering the diary
- Reporting directly to department manager
- Having a professional and pro-active approach
- Having strong client care skills
- Providing assistance with casework
- Attending to clients
- Taking instructions and preparing cases
- Dealing with correspondence
- Making applications for public funding
- Being an excellent time keeper and ensuring files are kept to an excellent standard and are fully compliant.
The Key Skills required for the Paralegal role are:
- An interest and passion in Criminal Law;
- A strong academic background with a Law degree or equivalent;
- Excellent communications skills to work effectively with all types of people;
- Excellent analytical and organisational skills, initiative and knowing when to seek guidance;
- Committed team player, self -motivated and professional.
Holding the police station qualification would be an advantage but not essential as the firm will provide one on one tuition from experienced solicitors and fund the PSQ Course during the first twelve months in the role
Once PSQ qualified, the successful candidate will be expected to hold the 24/7 emergency phone during anti-social hours on a shared rota.
