Our client is a Government-owned economic development bank. It aims to increase the supply of finance (and alternative finance) dedicated to small and medium businesses (SMEs) through Government money and advisory services backed by partnership with banks, leasing companies, venture capital funds and online platforms. They believe finance is vital to growth and the scaling of innovation so tend to invest very early on in founders and entrepreneurs who have come up with phenomenal ideas or propositions across a range of industries.

An in-house lawyer position reporting into the Director of Legal and Governance, you will provide legal support to business teams within the bank from venture and growth funds, credit funds, equity funds and funds of funds, as well as covering all portfolio matters that arise during the life of the Bank's investments. At the core of the team, you'll be facilitating the execution of investment transactions, from early engagement with business teams in the due diligence phase through to completion. The role will support the activities of the wider Legal and Governance team and you will be required to manage external counsel and legal fees. For your information, the role will start working from home and move to the London office when restrictions are lifted. Some national travel may be required from time to time based on business needs. You will be a qualified lawyer or barrister in England and Wales, with a desire to use your legal know-how in a different setting. You will have proven experience advising on LPAs, subscription documents, side letters and other ancillary documents and a good understanding of the regulatory frameworks for investment funds. Strong communication and negotiation skills, integrity and an ability to handle non-transactional legal work will be necessary for this role.

This is a great opportunity for a qualified lawyer to progress their career within an in-house legal team that is influenced by both the public and financial services sector, which is fairly unique. In addition to a competitive salary, the package includes 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays and the opportunity to buy and sell holiday), 15% employer pension contribution, performance related bonus, healthcare cash plan and life assurance, as well as a range of voluntary benefits designed to suit your lifestyle and flexible working options. Only lawyers with UK experience will be considered.
