Legal Adviser
(two-year training programme for non-specialists)
Canary Wharf, London
£51,810 - £59,405 per annum
2-year FTC, with opportunity for a permanent role at the end of the training programme.
Are you a qualified lawyer looking to take your career in a new direction? If so, then this role might be for you.
The CMA is responsible for promoting competition and consumer protection across the UK. Our aim is to make markets work well for consumers, businesses and the economy.
We are looking for qualified lawyers with no, or little, previous competition or consumer law experience to join our expanding team of advisory lawyers.
If successful, you will take part in a two-year structured programme designed to train you as a competition and consumer legal specialist.
During the programme you will:
- gain experience working on a mixture of competition and consumer law matters, which may include competition law enforcement, consumer law enforcement, merger control, market studies and investigations and regulatory appeals;
- complete the respected King’s College London postgraduate diplomas in competition law and consumer law (subject to course availability) (for which funding and study leave will be provided by the CMA);
- receive training and mentoring tailored to support you throughout the programme.
Subject to satisfactory performance, the expectation is that successful candidates will be kept on after the two-year training contract as a permanent member of the CMA’s legal team advising on competition and/or consumer law matters.
About the CMA:
With markets changing fast, and legal changes related to our exit from the EU, this is an exciting time to join us. Our work is varied, complex and highly rewarding. As a lawyer in the CMA Legal Service, you will be encouraged to apply your legal skills across a number of our practice areas while also developing specialist expertise. You will work alongside like-minded professionals on cases which can directly benefit the lives of everyone in the UK.
Successful applicants will play a critical part in the delivery of high-quality legal analysis from the outset of a project, shaping the legal framework, assessing evidence and ensuring that we produce legally robust decisions – as well as defending those decisions in court.
We will be holding a Teams Event chat on Wednesday 26 May 2021 between 4.30pm and 5:30pm To attend this event please sign up via the link when you click the Apply button.
