Research Contracts Officer – Midlands – Remote Working – 6-9 months FTC – £29,799 - £38,382 pro rata

Venn Group’s specialist legal team are thrilled to be recruiting for a Research Contracts Legal Officer to join a prestigious public sector organisation in the Midlands. The client is ideally looking to make a permanent appointment, however is also open to considering candidates on the basis of a fixed term contract.

This assignment is offered on a full-time basis however candidates possessing relevant experience who can only offer part-time hours will also be considered.

 

The contract is for a period of 6-9 months and will be worked on a fully remote basis. This opportunity is suitable for an experienced Contracts Officer.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team of contracts officers and will be responsible for a varied caseload of contracts, including: charitable grants to multi-party collaboration agreements involving a number of partner organisations across the EU.

Day-to-day duties may include:

  • Composing a variety of contract types including clinical trial agreements

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating EU consortium agreements, research contracts, grants, tenders for research grants, material transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements, studentships, memorandums of understanding relating to research and consultancy agreements

  • Corresponding with lead researchers from the academic community and the technology transfer company to identify any potential valuable intellectual property which might result in the course of the research

  • Providing accurate advice to instruct academics as to the contracts they wish to enter into

  • Liaising with governance and ethics colleagues to ensure research is compliant with any appropriate regulations and has been subject to any necessary review

  • Coordinating with the accounts, procurement and treasury sections of the wider finance office to ensure the research work has been properly priced and the scope of the research is covered by the organisation’s insurance policies

  • Negotiating directly with external parties such as research funders, sub-contractors and collaborators to obtain the best possible contractual terms for the organisation with regard to safeguarding intellectual property, minimising risk and liabilities to individual researchers and ensuring regulatory compliance

 

The appointed candidate will have experience relating to academic research, with the ability to apply this in a contract to include knowledge of intellectual property.
