What we are seeking

Verisure is seeking a talented, innovative passionate Commercial Lawyer with data protection experience to join our growing and successful legal team within the UK organisation. The role will report to the Head of Legal UK and will work closely with the UK team and functions (including sales, marketing, finance, operations and HR) as well as the Group Legal team.

The primary focus will be on commercial contract reviews and acting as the data protection point of contact.  You will have immediate oversight of data protection and GDPR tasks and initiatives with support from a Legal Assistant. There is also an opportunity to support on a small case load of commercial lease reviews and HR/employment law matters subject to experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

Mission 1: Enhance the data protection compliance regime within the organisation

  • Prepare, maintain, and update data protection compliance documentation and dealing with relevant enquiries. Experience in this regard is essential.
  • Primary point of contact for cross functional privacy related enquiries, providing appropriate advice and guidance.
  • Conduct Privacy impact assessments as necessary for local and group projects.
  • Deliver data protection related training across functions

Mission 2:  Commercial contracts review, negotiation and management of contract lifecycle:

  • Support the procurement team and other functions in the review and negotiation of contracts.
  • Mitigate risks and organisational exposure through the review of contracts, ensuring contracts follow the correct approval channels.
  • Manage the contract repository, update, and review contracts for renewal as necessary.
  • Engage with suppliers as necessary
  • Experience of working on consumer law matters and interactions with consumer law regulatory authorities is a bonus.

Mission 3:  Working with Group legal team & UK HR function as necessary

  • Participate in group initiatives to ensure alignment across global legal team.
  • Attend group driven meetings and projects.
  • Occasional European travel may be required in future – subject to Covid-19 restrictions.
  • Collaboratively supporting the HR function with initial enquiries

Experience and Qualifications

  • University Law degree + LPC or equivalent legal professional qualification
  • Prior experience working in-house in a commercial/ corporate legal team required
  • Minimum 3+ years PQE is preferred - level of PQE is for guidance only. All levels of PQE will be considered
  • CIPP/E CIPM certification is a bonus but not essential
  •  Good knowledge and experience in commercial contract review, negotiation and contract life cycle management.
  • Ability to advise on commercial contract risks and data protection enquiries in simple and concise terms
  • Work collaboratively across various areas of business expertise: coordination and communication skills. Collaborative working is key!
  • Resourcefulness and strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
