Locum Planning Lawyer – Midlands – 3-6 Months – Remote Working – up to £50 per hour

Venn Group’s specialist legal team are excited to be recruiting for a Locum Planning Lawyer to join a Local Authority legal team in the Midlands region.

The assignment is offered for an initial period of 3-6 months with the possibility of extension thereafter dependent upon workload. This role will be offered on a fully remote basis for the foreseeable future. Ideally, the client would like someone to take on the position on a full time basis, however candidates with part time availability possessing relevant experience may also be considered.

This role is suitable for a qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive or Barrister.

The successful applicant will possess a thorough knowledge of Planning Law and will have managed a caseload of matters within Local Government.

Duties may include:

  • Undertaking, with appropriate supervision, a substantial personal caseload of planning and highways work including the provision of legal advice, research and the presentation of legal analysis and information in oral and written form;

  • Dealing with traffic regulation orders (temporary or permanent), public right of way orders and the respective decision reports for the orders prior to sealing/completion;

  • Drafting, negotiating and concluding a caseload of planning and highways agreements and other legal documentation including enforcement notices;

  • Assisting the Lawyers and Senior Lawyers with more complex agreements and other planning and highways matters as necessary;

  • Advising on all aspects of the assets of community value process and statutory duties under the Localism Act 2011.

  • Assisting the Lawyers and Senior Lawyers to scrutinise and prepare legal advice on reports to the Council, the Executive, the Planning Committee and other committees.

  • Undertaking advocacy on routine matters of a planning, highways or regulatory nature with appropriate supervision and instructing counsel where necessary.

  • With the supervision of the Lawyers and Senior Lawyers, assisting with judicial reviews and statutory challenges arising out of the exercise of the Council’s planning and highways functions and to advise on and negotiate settlements as appropriate;

  • Undertaking advocacy on matters of a planning or highways nature with appropriate supervision and instructing counsel where necessary;

  • Deputising on planning and highways matters for the Lawyers and Senior Lawyers within the team

The position offers an hourly rate of £40 - £50 (umbrella) dependent upon levels of experience.
