An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Solicitor or Legal Executive to lead a thriving Private Client department with an award-winning law firm in Bristol.

This will be on a full-time basis overseeing the management of the team, as well as handling their own complex and high value caseload.

The department undertakes a full range of private client work including court of protection and deputyship work.

The role:

  • Working predominantly at home and one or two days from the office
  • The Private Client team has team members in Bristol and Leeds offices so the successful candidate will be required to manage a multi-sited service and a team who are, in the most part, remote working.
  • The successful Partner will be experienced in advising clients on all aspects of Private Client matters including, but not limited to; wills and administering estates (including challenges in relation to wills and their validity, tax and estate planning advice), Powers of Attorney and lifetime trusts (including Compensation Protection Trusts).
  • This role deals with all aspects of Court of Protection work with a focus on the management of financial affairs, as well as health and welfare matters of individuals who lack mental capacity to make decisions themselves.
  • Additionally, the firm offers a full, professionally managed deputyship service to clients and this role is responsible for managing and coordinating Deputyships across the Company, taking on the bulk of existing Deputyship work as well as acting as a Trustee

Requirements:

  • Previous people management experience in a Private Client department is required. As this position is responsible for managing and supervising team members alongside running a caseload, being well organised with the ability to prioritise workloads, and having excellent communications skills, are essential attributes.
  • The successful Partner will be self-sufficient and proactive, with a willingness and ability to use initiative but also have the necessary qualities to work as part of a team whilst leading it.
  • Due to the nature of the client base, it is essential to have fantastic client care skills and the necessary emotional intelligence as well as the ability to build and develop strong relationships with a wide range of people.
  • You must have extensive experience of working with vulnerable clients.  You will have broad tax and trusts expertise, and up to date welfare benefits knowledge.
  • You will also have current familiarity of Court processes (in particular for obtaining Deputyship Orders) and an understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
