Working underneath the Director of Compliance, this Data Protection Officer role has overall responsibility for data protection matters for two separate entities. Financial Services and/or automotive industry experience is beneficial but not essential, this role will suit an established data protection professional who has previously had some line management experience.

The office is based in Farnborough, home working can be offered for those who would like to split time between office and home.

Description

This Data Protection Officer role sits within the automotive / financial services industry, based in Farnborough. It involves:

-Overall responsibility for data protection for two separate entities, geographical remit of UK & Ireland

-Responsible for overall data protection strategy, review of policies and procedures, suggestion and implementation of changes / improvements as needed

-Overseeing, managing, training and up skilling a team of three data protection specialists

-Working with Group as and when required

-Creating and providing data protection specific training for the business when needed

-Advising business teams on privacy requirements, partnering with business areas on projects / new products etc.

-Acting as the main point of contact for the ICO

Profile

This Data Protection Officer role sits within the automotive / financial services industry, based in Farnborough. It requires:

Knowledge and Experience

  • Educated to degree standard (and above).
  • Experience in a similar Data Protection Officer role
  • Previous line manager experience
  • Hands on, operational data protection compliance experience, as well as strategic experience
  • Strong knowledge of the GPDR, Data Protection Act 2018, e-Privacy regulations and other related requirements.
  • A recognised data protection qualification is essential.
  • Previous legal, compliance or motor finance industry background an advantage.

Skills

  • Expert knowledge of UK and EU data protection laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of UK regulations and laws relevant to the automotive sector a positive but not essential
  • First class verbal/written communication (including report writing) skills at all levels with excellent attention to detail.
  • Able to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly organised and delivery orientated with strong project and time management skills.
  • Fully able to understand and embed Privacy by Design through the Change cycles.
  • Strong analytical skills including ability to swiftly identify issues, deliver appropriate challenge and recommend fit for purpose solutions.
  • Able to work on own initiative, pragmatically distil the potentially conflicting information to find the right information and provide that advice to the businesses.
  • Work with the Compliance leadership team to identify opportunities to enhance the reputation of Compliance and embed a compliance culture.
  • Strong team player with the ability and desire to lead, develop and support others.
