A brand new role has arisen for a debt recovery paralegal to join a large legal team in-house.

Client Details

My client is a market leading Asset Manager specialising in the management of freehold and leasehold properties throughout the UK.

Description


  • Reading leases, deeds and other property title documents and miscellaneous documents, identifying key lease provisions and analysing title structures
  • Obtaining and checking HM Land Registry documents, title deeds and leases and interpreting the same
  • Compiling reports to identify aged debt accounts, ensuring these are included in the arrears process to recover the outstanding sums due
  • Responding to solicitor queries relating to debt recovery and forfeiture of leases
  • Preparing case files for senior management to obtain consent for forfeiture of leases
  • Reviewing historical debt paid to third parties along with a review of completion statements and apportionment schedules to support the rent owed to our clients, liaising with third parties to recover the sums due
  • Updating and checking property management system data, updating other departments where necessary and responding to external third parties as appropriate
  • Reporting to Operations Manager (or other nominated supervisor) regarding work requirements, deadlines and expectations, and protecting the interests of the Company at all times
  • Legal research using online practice resources, in-house library or otherwise

  • Profile

    Skills and knowledge: essential

    • Law Graduate, or equivalent academic qualifications with experience in property law/conveyancing
    • High degree of integrity and reliability
    • Proven ability to work under pressure and to deadlines, good organisation skills, and able to work within a team
    • Computer literate: intermediate use of Word and Excel
    • Numerate and an effective communicator in writing and orally

    Skills and knowledge: desirable

    • An understanding and/or up to date practical experience of conveyancing procedures
    • Previous in-house experience, especially within the property industry
    • Experience of property debt collection and forfeiture of leases
    • Interest in legal property related research and a desire to acquire new skills and qualifications
