Head of Legal & Regulatory

LAW Absolute is currently working with one of the largest full-service UK law who are recruiting a Head of Legal & Regulatory to join their in-house General Counsel legal team. The role is on a full-time and permanent basis and the successful candidate will be able to work remotely most of the time.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of the In-house Legal and Regulatory provision to the business. This will include ensuring that the function is effective, efficient, within agreed budget and delivered within quality expectations to accomplish strategic priorities.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible and accountable for developing strategic approach to providing legal and regulatory advice to the business.
• Retain oversight of legal and regulatory workflows, prioritising as needed to enable solutions focussed outcomes to a variety of complex legal and regulatory issues.
• Engage, influence and challenge key stakeholders across the group on any issues which require a legal / regulatory input or consideration.
• Communicate effectively at all levels to both legal and non-legal professionals
• Manage escalations to resolve difficult problems ensuring that resources are targeted and employed efficiently in line with business needs.
• Source and manage specialist legal advice externally when necessary
• Set strategic goals for efficiency and increased productivity including effective management of internal and external legal spend
• Support the implementation of an effective operating model across the function, recommending solutions for improvement when necessary
• Understand the legal and regulatory requirements of the business and work with other GC functions, and the wider business to achieve compliance through our practices, processes and governance.
• Lead, motivate and coach a team of technical experts ensuring that they receive core skills, technical training, career development and effective performance management to drive high performance.
• Lead and programme manage where required, complex and or time critical projects across for the function
• Manage conflicting and changing demands through effective prioritisation and a pragmatic decision-making approach.
• Apply clear decision-making ability with the facility to judge complex situations and assess when to escalate issues

Experience Required

• Senior Solicitor with in-house experience.
• Expert understanding of Commercial Law and Contracts.
• Experience of Corporate Law, Consumer Law, IT Law, Intellectual Property Law and Data Protection Law.
• Experience of drafting and negotiating of legal documentation.
• Experience of successfully engaging management and groups of stakeholders.
• Experience in managing competing and ever-changing priorities whilst delivering objectives.
