This is a key strategic role for a data protection specialist to join this third sector organisation. Reporting to the Head of Legal, the National Data Protection Manager will be the first point of contact for senior stakeholders (directors, heads of departments and services), for data protection, information sharing and GDPR matters.

The organisation treats data matters with the utmost importance and is committed to processing personal data and special category personal data in a lawful, ethical, and consistent manner. You will be responsible for ensuring current processes and future proposed developments comply with the General Data Protection Regulation/Data Protection Act 2018. You will advise on, and support, the drafting of information sharing agreements and will ensure ISAs are in place where required and that these are fit for purpose, attending internal and external meetings to support services and teams in establishing appropriate processes and agreements for information sharing. Key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Reviewing ISAs and Data Sharing Agreements to ensure that these are fit for purpose and creating an ISA log.
  • Acting as the organisation's first point of contact for all requests for SARs & assisting with reviewing FOI requests.
  • Providing advice and support to colleagues and training colleagues on data matters as appropriate
  • Maintaining revising, rolling out and implementing policies and procedures on data protection.
  • Promoting data protection matters across the organisation.
  • Liaising with relevant external bodies and external stakeholders to ensure data protection policies and obligations are being followed.
  • Reviewing third party requests for access and ensuring appropriate governance is in place.
  • At all times, keeping abreast of changes in legislation in all and practice relevant to the role.


The ideal individual will have a legal qualification or be a data protection specialist and will have proven experience and detailed knowledge of the UK GDPR, EU GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and relevant legislation, regulation and guidance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are key. You will also possess excellent stakeholder management skills and will have the ability to manage work to meet deadlines.
