A reputable local authority within the Home Counties is seeking a Debt Recovery/litigation officer to join their team on a locum basis for 3-6 months plus with the view for extension.

The council are currently seeking someone to join the Legal team to be responsible for the collection and recovery of council tax, business rates, housing benefit overpayments and sundry debts.

The position involves implementing the various remedies for debt collection and enforcement, in accordance with current legislation, and representing the Council in the County Court in relation to any proceedings that have been instituted.

The successful candidate will be a Chartered Legal Executive with extensive experience of income collection, debt recovery and preparation of court proceedings and appearing in court as an advocate. They will be well-organised, have experience of working with financial systems, income collection and debt recovery and be able to quickly grasp the use of specialised computer packages. They will be able to define priorities, work rapidly and accurately and have the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with members of the public, solicitors, barristers, clerks and court service staff.
