About us

Buckinghamshire New University is an ambitious, modern university; one that is always open to fresh ideas and thinking. Our staff combine the very best professional practice with inspirational teaching and the University is consistently in the top quartile of the NSS for higher education institutions in the UK, exceeding the sector average in almost every area of the survey (NSS, 2019).

This is an exciting time to join the University as Solicitor, with our new University Strategy – Impact 2022 – and our revised values. The University is poised for the next phase in its development as we seek to develop our impact further, enrich the student experience through innovative and employment-focused education, and realign our professional services in support of our strategic aims.

The role

Providing high quality legal advice to the University and its subsidiaries. This will include supporting and advising University Schools and Directorates on legal and compliance matters relating to contracts, commercial activity, property leases, dispute resolution, intellectual property, and data protection to support the breadth of activity undertaken at the University.

Where necessary, the Solicitor will secure the effective and efficient delivery of specialist external legal support to the University.

Key responsibilities

This is a new Solicitor role responsible for establishing a service to provide internal legal support to the University. As such, the Solicitor will be in a unique position to influence the development of this service function.

The Solicitor will report directly to the University Secretary and will be required to provide legal advice and support to staff across the University. You will have a proactive and pragmatic attitude to work and will be able to work effectively with others.

The Solicitor role will support commercial activities by drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of agreements and contracts, and will lead on a variety of legal matters to provide in-house legal guidance and be able to identify potential issues.
