  • Location: Manchester
  • Salary: £39,000 - £48,000
  • Reports to: Head of Regulatory Team

A snapshot of the team

The Regulatory team handles a mix of on contentious and non-contentious regulatory work. On the non-contentious side, lawyers advise clients on important regulatory matters such as health and safety protocols, environmental regulations and other policies to ensure companies maintain compliance. The team helps implement workable policies and schemes to make sure clients remain compliant and adhere to the law wherever necessary. The department is responsible to writing, producing and applying regulatory policies particularly for businesses which are at a high risk of exposure.

Vast range of work undertaken by the team

The contentious work undertaken by the firm is often extremely high-profile, sometimes involving organisations who may be subject to criminal prosecutions due to a breach of their regulatory responsibilities. The team advises on all aspects of regulatory breaches including assisting clients in mounting internal investigation and demonstrating full co-operation with external regulatory and compliance bodies.

Their work also includes breaches that result in the most serious claims, such as criminal charges for corporate manslaughter. Clients are advised on not just the fundamental aspects of the law, but also how to manage a breach and ensure the correct steps are taken as soon as possible to remedy the breach and subsequent fallout.

Client will consider newly qualified solicitors up to Associate level

NQs and experienced Associates should ideally have a background in regulatory work or similar. Perhaps you have a corporate, insurance or prosecutions background. Those with experience in the defence of criminal, health and safety as well as environmental prosecutions are strongly encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates should also be able to demonstrate an understanding of the criminal and coroners' courts.

Candidates who are looking for retrain opportunities also considered

Perhaps you are a criminal lawyer with a real passion for regulatory work. Our client has retrained a number of lawyers in this area and we would be keen to hear from you if you have the necessary transferable skills.

The team is anxious to speak to candidates from a broad spectrum. Whether you are an experienced Associate with proven regulatory experience or an NQ or a lawyer with a real passion for regulatory work or looking for a retrain, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
