Job Purpose 

Working in our Legacy Disease team, your role as Assistant File Handler will be to assist Lead Handlers in handling mesothelioma and asbestos related claims. You will manage and progress claims for the Lead File Handler in accordance with the strategies and action plan as determined by the Lead File Handler. 

Key Accountabilities
  • Reviewing documents and preparing reports
  • Dealing with disclosure
  • Reviewing evidence (including medical/personnel records/Companies House records)
  • Conducting investigations with Insured / obtaining witness statements
  • Instructing Counsel/Experts
  • Research
  • Drafting generally
  • Attending conferences and Trials with Counsel
  • Dealing with routine correspondence
  • Court appointments including own advocacy
  • Providing initial reports and further reports/advice to clients, when requested
  • Liaising directly with the Claims Handlers and Managers
  • Complying with Clients instructions
  • Willing to engage in Client development when required
  • Assisting team in achieving goals and objectives
  • Meeting agreed targets
  • To ensure compliance with the SRA Code of Conduct 2019

Experience, Skills and Qualifications
  • Technically proficient in handling and/or assisting on disease litigated cases
  • Effective negotiator
  • Ability to use own initiative

  • Ability to self-organise and self-prioritise
