Varied mid-level in house role for an employment lawyer with a mix of contentious and non-contentious experience.

Client Details

Our Client is a globally recognised and ranked University with an established in house Legal Team.

Description

The Legal Counsel will be a key member of the University's Legal Services Team responsible for providing advice on a wide range of legal matters. These include advising on general employment and HR related issues as well as student matters. The Legal Counsel will lead on specific projects and will support the General Counsel in ensuring the continued performance of an effective and highly respected Legal Services team.

Legal Counsel - Employment will have responsibility for a flexible legal resource over a variety of areas relating to HR and employment issues as well as other general matters including:

  • Employment law, including disciplinary and grievance issues, equality and diversity, employment and tribunal work, development of policy, matters arising on collaborations, joint ventures, transactions etc. (e. TUPE issues, secondment arrangements etc.), pay and grading, internal training, employee relations.
  • Student related issues, including student complaints and appeals, development of policy.
  • Contentious matters.

They will also have the opportunity to get involved in the following practice areas through collaboration with other members of the Legal Team:

  • Regulatory matters.
  • Commercial contracts, joint ventures and collaborations (including intellectual property and IT matters); and
  • Charity law.

Profile

The successful candidate is likely:

  • to be a Solicitor or Barrister qualified in England & Wales or another Common Law Jurisdiction
  • to have at least 4+ years' relevant post qualification experience at a leading law firm or equivalent in-house role (this is a guideline only - candidates with the required level of skill and experience outside this pqe level will be considered).
  • strong experience in both contentious and not contentious employment law

Experience in advocacy will be looked upon favourably, as will experience gained working in house and exposure to commercial contracts and data protection law.
