An exciting opportunity to join a niche technology/data business with massive growth plans as their first dedicated Data Protection Officer. The business has attracted significant investment and is undertaking a large recruitment drive seeking to double employee numbers in the next few months. This is a good time to join the business in a key and very important role. This position can be undertaken fully remote or with some office presence.

Responsibilities:

In this position you will oversee a protection and governance strategy maintaining legislative compliance, adherence to regulatory requirements and meeting associated codes of practice. You will:

  • Own and develop the overall DP strategy and governance processes for the business
  • Ensure compliance to regulations
  • Provide training and regular updates to the stakeholders in relation to data protection and GDPR
  • Ensure data remains up-to-date and is destroyed when necessary
  • Undertake Privacy Impact Assessments and audits, ensuring privacy weakness are identified and mitigated as appropriate
  • Liaise with the Data Protection Regulator as and when required and investigate regulatory complaints in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Manage any DP/Privacy related incidents ensuring appropriate internal and external escalation
  • Work closely with Group Legal to ensure that all Data Protection considerations have been reflected in all contracts appropriately
  • Assist Procurement colleagues with ITT processes and due diligence, to ensure that any providers meet compliance requirements     
  • Provide Data Protection guidance to the business on key projects and initiatives to ensure compliance
  • Own, develop and update key business Policies (Data Protection / Records Retention / Clear Desk)
  • Ensure annual ICO registrations are completed
  • Liaise with regulators including FCA
  • Deliver a change program designed to meet proposed changes in legislation

We are looking for:

  • An experienced Data Protection Officer with at least 5 years* relevant experience
  • Thorough understanding of GDPR, DPA 2018, FCA compliance
  • Strong ability of statistical analysis
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Detail orientated
  • Confident and persuasive self-starter
  • A legal background would be a benefit
