What? - Assistant Accountant (Perm)

Where? - Basingstoke

Our client is looking for a permanent Assistant Accountant to join their Basingstoke office. The role sits within the Accounts team of a law firm, and will work closely alongside the International Management Accountant as a key contact for overseas offices. The ideal candidate will studying towards their ACCA or AAT qualification, previous experience in a law firm/legal setting is advantageous but not essential.

The client has introduced a new policy to allow staff to work from home or other UK locations for at least 50% of their time, however the successful candidate will need to be able to reach the Basingstoke office when required so applications from far outside the Basingstoke area will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as key point of contact for the overseas finance staff
  • Take responsibility to request, scrutinise and post the overseas cashbooks into the finance system
  • Reconciliation of the overseas bill books
  • Review, process and follow up approval of invoices and expenses
  • Assistance with the annual statutory audit
  • Preparation of schedules and collation of information to assist with regular VAT/GST and other submissions

Key Requirements:

  • AAT or ACCA studier who is enthusiastic and ambitious to learn and grow within the role
  • A clear ability to manage and prioritise a complex and changing workload, with the ability to work under pressure within tight deadlines, whilst maintaining a high attention to detail at all times
  • A strong team player who can work within a team as well as individually
  • Numerate with robust double entry skills
  • Experience of bookkeeping, including prepayments, accruals, fixed assets and bank reconciliations
  • IT literate with good excel skills including VLOOKUP, pivot tables
  • Good communications skills, both written and verbal
  • A background in law and experience of Elite are desirable but not essential for this role
  • Experience working with multiple currencies is advantageous
