Commercial Legal Counsel

A very busy legal commercial and operations team is currently seeking an additional legal counsel to perform a broad commercial role in the context of financial services. As an internal lawyer, you will be required to draft and negotiate all different types of contracts as well as work on some large-scale commercial projects. You will work on sponsorship agreements as well as the IP elements. You will partner with procurement, look at consulting agreements and support on infrastructure and data. The role will have various legal ops elements including looking after the managed services operation which currently completes the majority of BAU contracts, leaving you to lead on more complex, strategic and higher value commercial negotiations. You will need to be commercially minded to understand the requirements from a general business perspective. As part of a relatively small legal team you will have to opportunity to expand your skill set working on peripheral matters such as competition, property and HR.

Whilst open to lawyers currently working in-house, this position would perhaps suit someone making their first move from private practice. Neither a financial services, or a commercial contracts background is necessarily required as the team are happy to work with someone junior who is interested in moving away from the area of law they qualified into, and has a proven record of success with this. Working within this unique organisation will bring challenges, and there is likely to be lots of development for the successful candidate.
