Legal Counsel

Leading investment company seeks corporate, banking or finance solicitor / Legal Counsel to join its expanding legal team in Manchester.

A global investment company offering capital and transaction advice to tech start ups, entrepreneurs and founders across the globe. The company has a track record of success and has backed a number of unicorn tech companies that are well known to the public.

Our client is a passionate, fast paced and entrepreneurial business with ambitious plans to significantly grow revenue and head count, and establish new business lines and a presence in new jurisdictions.

BCL placed the existing Chief Legal Officer and Legal Counsel, and continued growth and expansion means a more transactional focused solicitor is now required.

The legal department is based in Manchester and the company operates a hybrid working model.


Role - Legal Counsel:

Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, and working alongside the existing Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for providing legal support, advice and solutions to key stakeholders in the UK and overseas.

Specific duties are likely to include: M&A and transactional support; project management of strategic projects; setting up new product lines; company secretarial tasks such as board minutes, filing and statutory forms; drafting and reviewing a range of commercial agreements; preparing and delivering training on key legal and compliance topics; reporting to the business and executives on key legal issues; and undertaking other ad hoc tasks as required.

The Chief Legal Officer is open to applications from solicitors looking to move in-house for the first time and this would be an excellent first in-house role.


About you - key attributes:

It is anticipated that the Legal Counsel will have circa 1-3 years' PQE in a corporate, banking, finance or similarly transactional legal role.

You should be capable of working independently and be confident managing interactions with senior business executives, external advisors and clients.

It is anticipated that you will have a passion for technology and working with start-up companies and entrepreneurs, and you should possess a commercial, solutions orientated approach with a high degree of attention to detail.
