Interim Head of Governance
Sellick Partnership is currently recruiting for an Interim Head of Governance for our local authority client. This role will initially be for a period of between 3 - 6 months with the possibility of extension.
As Interim Head of Governance, you will be responsible for the management of the democratic and committee services functions, providing advice on behalf of the Director of Legal Services and Monitoring Officer.
Responsibilities will include:
- On behalf of the Council's Monitoring Officer, to oversee and advise upon, the council's corporate and ethical governance framework including advising and challenging elected members and officers.
- To support the Director of Law and Governance in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the Council's democratic decision making and governance processes including managing the Committee Services Team
- Leading the teams and representing their interests and those of its members
- Monitoring and reviewing standards and practices
- Day to day advice and guidance on duties in the context of corporate objectives
- Provide timely and accurate research and support to the Council's Monitoring Officer
- Deliver advice, interventions and solutions on behalf of the Monitoring Officer on best governance practice and compliance issues
- Deliver effective governance advice (including training and communications) to the Council, its senior managers and elected members
- Assist the Monitoring Officer in the investigation of Members' Code of Conduct complaints for the Council and its parishes
- Act as primary advisor on behalf of the Monitoring Officer to senior managers and elected members
Candidates will need to demonstrate a sound understanding of the functions of local government, committee procedures, relevant legislation and the roles of Officers and Members alongside demonstrating previous experience of constitutional process and protocols and working closely with elected members and chief officers
This role can be worked largely remotely however some attendance throughout the month for meetings will be required.
