A fantastic opportunity has come up with an international payments firm who are looking for a European Data Privacy Officer to join their business in Luxembourg. The role will report to the Senior Legal Counsel/Head of European Governance based in London.

The Global Privacy Counsel and EU Data Privacy Officer is part of firm's corporate legal affairs team and, in conjunction with the Head of Corporate Legal Affairs, is responsible for the provision of privacy legal advice to the group and the continued development of the firm's privacy program. You will have global oversight of applicable privacy rules and requirements and will provide privacy advice on all aspects of its business, including customer and supplier agreements, product development, regulatory outreach, and other key business initiatives. As EU Data Privacy Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring that processes for the personal data of staff, customers, providers, and any other individuals are compliant with all applicable data protection rules. As part of the corporate legal affairs team, you will serve as a trusted adviser to the Luxembourg management team and may also support global intellectual property and procurement matters from time to time.

Responsibilities:

  • Acting as Data Protection Officer for the firm's European businesses
  • Advising on privacy matters globally and helping drive the privacy agenda across the business
  • Acting as the primary point of contact within the business for members of staff, regulators, and any relevant public bodies on issues related to data protection
  • Monitoring of compliance with data protection regulations
  • Analysis of business procedures regarding the processing of personal data in alignment with IT security measures
  • Verification of contracts with service providers concerning privacy issues, as well as customer related documents, and taking care of data processing agreements
  • Identifying and evaluating the firm's data processing activities
  • Providing advice and instructions on how to conduct privacy impact assessments
  • Participating in meetings with leaders to ensure privacy by design at all levels
  • Ensuring that the business addresses all queries from data subjects within the legal timeframes
  • Liaising with other organisations that process data on the firm's behalf
  • Performing audits and determining whether the business needs to alter its procedures to comply with regulations
  • Arranging training on GDPR compliance for all employees
  • Following up with changes in law and issuing recommendations to ensure data protection compliance
  • Wider support for the Corporate Legal Affairs department.

Qualification and skills required:

  • Degree qualification
  • Experience in data protection, information governance and general privacy laws in multiple jurisdictions (Europe, Asia and North America)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in advising on privacy matters
  • Ability to handle confidential information and highly sensitive matters
  • Experience with requirements of EU DPO
  • Knowledge of the applicable regulations and implementation skills
  • The ability to explain complex legal matters in a clear way
