This newly-created Talent Development Manager role will support the Leveraged Finance and Capital Markets practices in the London office of this prestigious law firm, ensuring the professional and personal growth of lawyers and their careers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build a comprehensive knowledge of the practice groups - their work, people, deal flow and clients.
  • As well as gaining a comprehensive understanding of the Associates in the groups, in terms of  their Key Performance Indicators, key strengths, specialist knowledge, professional development goals and overall performance;
  • Work closely with the Allocations Partners in:
    • coordinating the allocation of Associates to ongoing and new matters, suggesting assignments based on the workload of the department and the developmental needs of each Associate;
    • coordinating annual leave planning, to ensure that deals are suitably resourced.
  • Assist with, and monitor, the work allocations to Trainee Solicitors, and ensure that utilization is maximised;
  • Work closely with Partners to ensure that appropriate developmental and training needs are  identified and communicated during Associate performance reviews; attend all evaluation meetings to ensure consistency in the form of delivery;
  • Ensure that performance reviews are completed for Associates and Trainee Solicitors;
  • Provide advice, coaching and guidance to Associates on their career goals;
  • Work in conjunction with the Training Partner(s), Practice Support Lawyers and the Professional Development team on the creation of training programmes and ad hoc training events;
  • Ensure that tailored induction programmes are created for new hires, and support the induction of new Trainees into the team at Seat Rotation;
  • Involvement in developing and facilitating ad hoc events to foster greater cohesion and communication within the team;
  • In conjunction with the Recruitment Manager, support the recruitment of lateral hires and Trainee Solicitors;
  • In conjunction with the HR Manager, manage the exit procedures for departing associates.
  • Provide active support to the Firm's diversity and inclusion initiatives. 
  • Ad hoc project work, as required e.g. benchmarking, research, change management projects.

The Successful Applicant:

  • Minimum of five years’ previous experience in a similar role. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the confidence and ability to influence at all levels, building effective working relationships and using personal networks;
  • Resilient, self-motivated and proactive;
  • Comfortable with change, eager to innovate and resolve problems;
  • Team player, with a commitment to delivering an excellent service to colleagues; and
  • Full CIPD qualification and/or a coaching qualification would be helpful.

The flexible working going forward is typically 3 days in the office, 2 at home, but they are open to discussions around this.

Salary wise, salary is up to/around £120,000. They would very much like to bring in someone with experience of professional/talent development or at least with a strong interest in taking their career forward in this direction.
