This is an excellent moment for an experienced Education Solicitor to join a highly respected firm within a celebrated department.

This pioneering Legal 500 law practice is ranked among the Top 80 law firms in the UK and wields a first-class reputation. You will not be disappointed by the quality of the work they have running throughout. They genuinely believe in a 'people-focused' approach.

The Firm:

Ranked in the Top 100, this firm is different to many other City firms - they have a unique progressive culture, and unlike other City firms, it is common for people to stay with them for their entire careers. As a result, it is rare to find staff retention rates this good.

The firm is known for dealing with the highest quality work, and the London office has 400 members known for punching well above their weight.

In the last 12 months alone, the practice has advised on corporate transactions worth over £3 billion and had involvement in some of the largest and widely known projects in the country.

The firm values work-life balance with a 50:50 flexible working policy. You will find a a friendly, progressive and supportive team dynamic but handles quality work like that of much larger City firms.

The Role:

The firm is seeking an Education Solicitor to join at the Associate level, based form the City of London office.

In this role, you will receive superb training and the appropriate level of supervision - enabling you to lead and advise your own projects within a supportive and encouraging environment.

You will gain direct exposure to quality work and liaise directly with clients such as project managers and Department for Education project leads.

The work you will undertake will include:

  • advising clients on the processes and general support with project management;
  • produce and circulate standard academy template documents including:
  • drafting and submitting Department for Education Funding Agreements;
  • negotiating Commercial Transfer Agreements with local authorities, advising clients on the transfer of school contracts;
  • drafting TUPE measures letters for clients to issue in relation to the transfer of staff;
  • completing title investigations at the Land Registry and liaising with the Department for Education on Land Questionnaires and ideally also negotiating and concluding land transfers, including 125 year leases and freehold transfers.

You will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from highly skilled Partners, a valuable opportunity to build upon your skills and abilities. While you will work closely with the Partners, you will also have exposure to dealing with clients directly as the firm is a strong believer in "learning by doing".

A large part of the practice is acting for Academy Trusts - an area of work that is exponentially increasing as more schools operate independently of local authorities. The team also advise a number of education charities and foundations such as the Church of England Education Office, the Catholic Education Service and the Department for Education.

The department is rapidly growing, creating a lot of organic prospects for progression within this highly tiered Legal 500 team.

Requirements:

  • England and Wales qualified solicitor with 1-4 years PQE
  • Able to manage a varied workload
  • Experience in education is desirable but not essential
  • Good work ethic and organisation skills

Benefits

  • Salary above market rate
  • 50:50 hybrid working policy
  • Excellent benefits package (healthcare, AL, pension etc)
