This is a Junior-to-Mid-level Legal Counsel role within the Legal Function of a prestigious Energy Infrastructure project.

Client Details

Our Client is the builder, owner and operator of a key piece of infrastructure for the UK's present and future energy supply.

Description

Legal Counsel will:

  • be responsible for a broad range of legal matters including the identification and mitigation of legal, regulatory, commercial and compliance risks encountered in the day to day running of this prestigious project in the Energy Sector.
  • support the business through the development and negotiation of key contracts to minimise risk and maximise value in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Support commercial negotiations with customers to ensure balanced commercial terms are agreed, proposing innovative and flexible solutions to maximise value, minimise risk and ensure compliance with the organisation's "licence to operate".
  • Work with commercial, regulatory and environmental functions, support projects associated with energy transition and emissions reduction.
  • Instruct and manage external counsel where necessary.
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of legislation, regulatory frameworks and developing legislation applying to the organisation.
  • Engage, in conjunction with the organisation's Regulation and Commercial function, with legal professionals in industry regulators to influence and agree favourable terms in licences and commercial contracts.

Profile

The successful candidate will:

be a UK or Common qualified lawyer.

be likely to have between 4 and 8 years of PQE.

Have gained experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, either at a Chamber Ranked private practice law firm and/or in house within the Legal Department of a relevant organisation.

Commercial contracts expertise is essential, but experience and exposure to the following areas will also be looked upon favourably:

  • Energy, Projects or Oil & Gas
  • Environmental, ESG or Regulatory Law
