Senior Planning Lawyer | Birmingham / Guildford, Homeworking Opportunities | Negotiable Salary

The Senior Planning Lawyer's Responsibilities: 

  • General drafting, negotiating, and advising on highways and planning agreements
  • Giving strategic advice on planning and highway applications - considering the implications of planning applications for the Strategic Road Network as a statutory consultee under the Town & Country Planning Act 1990
  • Advising the business on its role as an interested party in respect of third-party development proceedings under the Planning Act 2008 regime
  • Working with external lawyers on the delivery of the Road Investment Strategy including advising on Development Consent Orders
  • Advising on the delivery of highway schemes under the Highways Act 1980
  • Providing advice to the business on compulsory purchase, highways law, permitted development, planning conditions, consultation, judicial review, and High Court challenges
  • Playing a leading role in the team and offering support to junior team members

What You Need to Succeed: 

  • PQE 5-7 years+
  • The skill and motivation to support lawyers, junior lawyers, trainees, and paralegals and provide strong professional leadership
  • Demonstrable experience in at least two of the key areas of law practiced by the team (town and country planning law, infrastructure planning law, highways law, environmental law, and public law)
  • Ability to apply legal skills to new or unfamiliar areas of law
  • Proven track record of working with minimal supervision
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships, communicate clearly, and explain complex issues in a way that is easy to understand
  • Ability to proactively manage complex projects, identify legal and commercial risks and find solutions
