This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful in-house Commercial Property legal team. The team provides advice and support to the Council with a proactive and solution-focused approach. The team is looking to recruit an experienced property lawyer - either Cilex qualified, a solicitor or a barrister - to handle an interesting and varied caseload of commercial property and residential property development matters.
The Commercial Property team deal with a broad and diverse area of law that includes property, school academy conversions, traffic regulation orders, land charges and compulsory purchases. It has been at the heart of a number of large and high value transactions across the city. They also get involved with a lot of agricultural work, which adds to CVs and provides an opportunity to perhaps learn a new areas of property law.
Ideally the successful candidate will have a proven track record of experience in commercial property matters. You will be motivated, enthusiastic, and keen to provide a good standard of legal advice and support to the Council. Experience in Local Government is advantageous, although not essential, and individuals with experience obtained in other sectors are welcome to apply.
You will be required to provide support to other Lawyers in the Commercial Property team and act as a point of contract on a variety of cases, to include taking instructions, providing advice to the Council, drafting agreements, attending meetings and carrying out research. The role includes a provision of the following work:-
- Provide legal advice and services to client organisations in the areas of commercial property matters, corporate, constitutional and administrative matters to ensure compliance with statutory duties and obligations and to protect the best interests of the client organisations.
- Regeneration and development projects work, drafting development agreements, overages, conditional sale agreements, complex leases drafting for grade A commercial property around the city, licence agreements, collateral warranties, advising on gap funding agreements, dealing with statutory school transfers and managing academy conversions
- Act as a source of legal advice and support to any of the client Councils' Committees and Directorates as directed.
- Provide high quality, innovative, well researched and comprehensive specialist legal advice to clients (including elected members and senior officers), managing a complex caseload and delivering advice within the timescales required by the client.
This is a temporary role 6 month role in the first instance, so applicants must be available to commence work at short notice. This a flexible client that can offer remote working, so location is not an obstacle. All necessary IT equipment can be provided by the client. ***This role can be placed outside IR35***
