The Clean Air Fund is looking to recruit a Legal Counsel. This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing organisation whose mission is to use philanthropic grants to catalyse a reduction in air pollution.    

As Legal Counsel with Clean Air Fund (CAF), you would work closely with CAF’s Senior Leadership Team to ensure CAF complies with its required legal and funder obligations and to advise on all CAF contracts which primarily constitute grants. You will bring your legal expertise to offer expert solution-focused input across a wide range of issues to ensure that CAF grows rapidly and robustly. 

Reporting to the Director of Operations and Finance, as Legal Counsel, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the crucial philanthropic work of the Clean Air Fund. By working closely with senior team members, you will ensure that the organisation follows best practice in contracting and all relevant regulations. You will lead the legal review of all CAF’s grant agreements and contracts for both income and expenditure. You will also own the risk management process and input heavily into CAF’s governance and board processes. 

To be successful in this role you will have; 

  • UK qualified solicitor
  • Experience in drafting, reviewing, negotiating and advising on contracts with a range of external stakeholders
  • Experience of legal risk and compliance, gained in a non-profit, philanthropic or impact driven environment is preferable
  • An up-to-date understanding and practice of UK charity law
  • Capacity to work as a strategic partner across functions and directors.
  • Skills required to work in a range of cultural and socio-economic contexts, adapting style and approach appropriately and in a culturally sensitive manner to maximise effectiveness.
  • Fluency in English. Proficiency in French and other languages relevant to the countries where CAF operates  is an advantage.
  • IT proficiency (most specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Salary range – £72,100-77,250 pro rata. Salary is dependent on experience.
  • Type of employment - Permanent, part time (0.5– 0.6 FTE). We are open to discussions on how there hours are divided over the week but would see that they are spread over at least three days.
  • Based in London, Dehli or Accra
  • Home working can be facilitated for up to 50% of the time
  • Post holders must have the right to work in the location they have applied for
