About the role:

The Central Compliance Officer role supports their line managers in ensuring that the Society maintains records of compliance with the rules of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA). The primary role being to maintain adequate records of Central Compliance Registers including breaches. The role holder will, alongside other members of the team be the primary first point of contact for the business (first line of defence) that will enable the Society to be compliant in its day-to-day business.

Main Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility for the maintenance of the Data Protection and Information Security, SMCR and Regulatory Reporting records, including as appropriate, collaboration with team members for the Compliance training programme
  • Primary administrative responsibility, working with other members of the team accordingly, for the administration of all Central Compliance Registers, updating the relevant sections of Compliance MI Reporting, including the Compliance Monitoring Programme on a monthly basis (see table below for guidance on compliance registers)
  • Support the Compliance & Legal Manager to drive regulatory compliance awareness of controls across the business, primarily through ownership of the listed registers
  • Support the Compliance team to review and analyse existing processes and practices and help to identify regulatory compliance, or legal affairs risks and solutions
  • Contribute where necessary to the maintenance of relevant regulatory compliance policies and Compliance Department procedures for the Society
  • To respond timely to queries from the business in order to provide a sufficient service from the Team
  • To support with strategic projects where required
  • Support internal audits of the department and where necessary within their remit, ensure actions are closed within agreed timescales
  • Support of operational risk incidents relevant to the department and ensure correct closure and future prevention
  • Any other duties required by the Director of Governance

The list of registers below is not exhaustive. All registers, including Data Protection and Information Security records, are held centrally by Compliance. Whilst the function holder may be involved in all aspects ad-hoc, including being the back-up, their primary responsibility is highlighted in the list of registers within the table below

Profile

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following skills, knowledge & qualifications:

Essential

Experience working in financial services and a regulated business

Experience of data protection and related compliance issues

Excellent understanding of GDPR, Data Protection and ICO guidelines

Experience in supporting operational areas with regulatory compliance, including understanding a company's use of information technology

Excellent organisational and time management skills

Possess strong communication skills both written & verbal

Well-organised, with a high attention to detail and ability to prioritise

Possess a high level of confidentiality

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Computer & IT literate, knowledge of Microsoft applications

Desirable

Experience of SMCR

A qualification in Compliance

A data protection qualification (e. CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT)
