Legal Counsel | Oxford, Hybrid | Negotiable Salary
Work with a global media company, as their new part-time Legal Counsel. Joining the head office in Oxford, this role will be in a hybrid working structure. A global publisher, the firm is renowned in the academic publishing world, operating across 60 countries working on world leading titles.
The Role:
- As the Part Time Legal Counsel you will report directly to the GC and be responsible for this media company's privacy strategy
- The Privacy Counsel will develop and drive the privacy framework and work with senior stakeholders to establish best practice
- This role has international exposure working with multiple jurisdictions in establishing policy and being integral in their confirmation of the framework
- Working with the DPO, you will be the senior expert on privacy law
Typical responsibilities will include:
- Providing proactive first line data privacy and cyber security global legal support to ensure divisional and functional business objectives are met in a privacy compliant manner
- This will involve a particular focus on divisional digital product and marketing activities and global HR policies and practices
- Advising on global privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR and overseas privacy frameworks, including in the US and China (with the support of external counsel if required)
- Advising on data privacy-related contract provisions and the maintenance of suitable template clauses, including in relation to data transfers
- Advising on Freedom of Information requests
- Supporting the Chief ISDP Officer in relation to the maintenance of OUP ISDP policies and processes
About You:
The Part Time Legal Counsel - Privacy will be a qualified solicitor in England & Wales / Scotland / Ireland and be practising in commercial, privacy or technology
- Experience and know how in key areas (e. GDPR, PECR, cyber security and data privacy)
- Experience identifying and mitigating legal risks
