Compliance Advisory Officer | Cheshire, Crewe | Negotiable Salary 

Join a progressive law firm, as their new Compliance Advisory Officer. Working in Data Protection you'll be responsible for supporting and challenging the wider business on all data protection and IT security aspects to ensure compliance with applicable UK data protection laws.

The Role: 

As the new Compliance Advisory Officer, you'll be working on a subject matter that will enable the business to be successful in their ambitious growth and digital programme. 

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting and challenging the wider Society on all data protection and IT security aspects to ensure compliance with applicable UK data protection laws
  • Working on a subject matter that will enable the Society to be successful in their ambitious growth and digital programme 

Your Responsibilities will Include: 

  • Working collaboratively with the relevant business areas to help shape & implement the data & IT security strategy by identifying effective initiatives that are aligned to the Society's business goals
  • Leading relevant strategic activity ensuring projects are delivered on time & within budget
  • Providing timely, consistent, accurate and clear advice on data protection and IT security practices and issues
  • Providing guidance and advise on the use of data for marketing, analytics purposes and the development of IT data governance
  • Holding responsibility for the review, maintenance and enhancement of our data protection & IT security framework, data governance processes and ensuring that privacy by design is embedded in all our change programmes
  • Driving data protection & IT security awareness across the business
  • Providing technical support and challenge to change initiatives
  • The implementation of ongoing data protection related tasks, such as data subject rights requests or data privacy impact assessments
  • Reviewing data protection incidents and ensure correct closure and future prevention
  • Reviewing and analysing existing processes and practices and help to identify data protection risks and solutions
  • Supporting the Society's risk function in assessing, understanding and reporting data privacy and IT security risks
  • Supporting internal privacy and compliance audits, ensuring actions are closed within agreed timescales
  • Undertaking research on regulatory requirements and best practice
  • Developing and maintaining relevant data protection policies and procedures for the Society
  • Providing technical training and regularly communicate with employees to ensure awareness of data protection requirements
  • Any other duties required by the Director of Governance

About You:

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following skills, knowledge & qualifications:

  • Experience in a senior Compliance role, or comparable position at a regulatory body, and hold appropriate professional qualifications
  • In-depth understanding of industry standards and regulations i. UK financial services and FCA rules
  • Experience in supporting operational areas with regulatory compliance, including understanding a company's use of information technology and or digital marketing
  • Delivery of a compliance strategy to achieve success and drive forward compliance awareness for the society
  • Experience of implementing large regulatory change projects
  • Proven experience of developing and implementing compliance procedures
  • Proven people management experience and leading a Compliance function to achieve results
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent analytical skills to e., interpret and apply UK regulation
  • An effective and engaging communicator, able to present complex information in simple context, adapting your style to suit your audience
  • Accomplished in forging effective relationships at all levels
  • Skilled at influencing, negotiating and managing challenging conversations with ease
  • Able to work in a team or alone and effectively collaborate to achieve common goals
  • Resilience and ability to work effectively in a busy environment, prioritising carefully and escalating when necessary

Job Offer

  • Compliance Advisor - Data Protect (full time 37 hours per week / hybrid)
  • £28-36k per annum. 10% managers bonus scheme based on performance (business & individual)
