Data Protection Lawyer | Government Legal Department | Salary up to £63,734 per annum

The Role:

We’re hiring data protection lawyers across a wide range of government departments, including the Home Office, the Ministry of Justice, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS).  

You’ll take on challenging and highly varied work that frequently makes the news. From space travel to sport, terrorism, the prison system and more, you’ll make a significant impact in your assigned projects through assured legal advice and casework.

In particular, you’ll advise on:

  • The Data Protection Act, UKGDPR, freedom of information requests and complex information law issues.
  • In some departments, you’ll help develop new data protection policies and legislation, and there are opportunities to collaborate with other departments and bodies across government.

About You:

  • You’ll be an experienced solicitor or barrister with substantial experience in data protection and information law. You’ll also have a sound understanding of public or private law.
  • We look for excellent communication skills, reliable judgement and a strategic mindset combined with abilities in analysis and research. Being able to welcome views and challenge others is essential, as is a good sense of customer needs and expectations.
  • You’ll also need a minimum of a 2:1 honours degree. Before your employment can start, you’ll need to complete the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) as part of the Civil Service background checks.
