This is a Senior Legal Counsel withing the Rail Sector covering General Commercial, Procurement, Construction and Projects work. It is based in Milton Keynes but the department allows a large degree of flexibility in working arrangements.
Client Details
Our Client is a major payer in the UK Rail industry and the owner, builder and future operator of a major part of the UK Rail Infrastructure.
Description
This is a unique opportunity to support the development of a nationally significant infrastructure project at an exciting point within its lifecycle, providing legal support and advice to the wider business. As Senior Legal Counsel you will work across a variety of practice areas including but not limited to:
- Managing/co-ordinating the business's external legal advisers. You will be expected to liaise with our external legal advisers and act as gatekeeper, marshalling and interpreting the business need.
- Advising on commercial and construction matters in the context of negotiating and drafting procurement contracts.
- Advising on employment and data protection matters.
- Collaborating with the GC, senior leadership team and colleagues across the business to mitigate risk.
Please note: this role is available on both a one year fixed term contract or permanent basis (candidates can be considered for either or both).
The office is based in Milton Keynes but there is flexibility around working arrangements including remote working. For example, many in the legal team work semi-remotely. The Legal Team has a team meeting in the office once a month and regular virtual catch ups.
Profile
The successful candidate will be a Lawyer qualified in the UK (or other Common Law Jurisdiction) and will be likely to have at least 6 years PQE as an indicative level of experience (please note that our Client is happy to consider candidates outside of this range who have the right skill set, which would be likely to include:
- Experience of an in-house environment either in an in-house role or experience of working extremely closely with an in-house legal team.
- Experience of providing legal advice in respect to commercial contracts, construction and procurement or other rail sector related experience (eg: planning issues and the consenting of public infrastructure schemes)
If you are a lawyer with a strong background in commercial contracts, experience of working in a team and an eagerness to learn, do not feel at a disadvantage simply because you do not come from a rail infrastructure projects background. Experience advising in a public sector environment would be extremely advantageous but not essential.
