Sports (Commercial) lawyer 3+ years’ PQE NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE

Well-regarded commercial law firm in Newcastle is looking to recruit a Sports (Commercial) lawyer 3 or more years’ PQE. This growing Sports team advises national governing and funding bodies, professional leagues and clubs, elite athletes, intermediaries, semi-pro and amateur associations and suppliers to the sector.  Their club-related work is broad, from the top of the professional game to amateur/grassroots. Ideally, you will already have experience as commercial sports solicitor with strong technical ability in this area of law.  You will also be a team player who can easily integrate into a busy and active team, supporting on its business development strategy. The successful candidate should have: • experience of the preparation and negotiation of a variety of commercial contracts within the sector including licensing, outsourcing, sponsorship, standard terms of trading, sale and purchase of goods and/or services • an understanding of the different types of legal structure and special tax status of clubs, from professional to amateur/grassroots • experience of advising on sports governance and regulatory issues, including the application and interpretation of rules and governing documents • knowledge of data protection compliance with GDPR in a sports context and general IP issues in the sector, including image rights, brand protection, trademark, copyright, design rights, patent, confidentiality and related matters.
